The South Medford Panthers had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They put the hurt on North Eugene with a sharp 75-53 victory. The victory was all the more spectacular given South Medford's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while North Eugene is ranked fourth).
Despite the loss, North Eugene still got an impressive performance from Caiden Gould, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. Gould also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonas Spencer, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, North Eugene were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
South Medford's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.8 points per game. As for North Eugene, their loss dropped their record down to 9-2.
South Medford will head out on the road to face off against Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Central Catholic has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 460 points over their last seven games. North Eugene won't have much time to rest: their next match is against North Medford at 3:30 p.m. on December 29th. North Medford knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully North Eugene likes a good challenge.
