Mount Vernon and Galloway are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Mount Vernon Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Galloway Scots at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mount Vernon will be looking to keep their 12-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
Last Monday, Mount Vernon came up short against Greenforest and fell 61-54.
Kj Garris put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 31 points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Shegog, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Galloway's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They took a 68-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Walker. While losing is never fun, Galloway can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 418th, while Walker is ranked 146th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Vaughn Murphy, who scored 13 points along with eight assists and three steals. Grant Patrick was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Mount Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Galloway, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-14.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's match: Mount Vernon have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 5.7 threes per game. However, it's not like Galloway struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.9 threes per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Mount Vernon strolled past Galloway in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 by a score of 69-55. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Galloway's Amir Arrington, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Mount Vernon to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
