Marian and Elkhorn South are an even 5-5 against one another since August of 2017, but likely not for long. The Crusaders will square off against the Storm at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Marian turned things around against Westview on Friday. They walked away with a 9-6 victory over the Wolverines.
Marian let Brooklyn Kincaid and Keely Robbins run wild. Kincaid went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base, while Robbins went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. What's more, Robbins posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in October of 2024. Millie Sutko also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Elkhorn South was able to grind out a solid win over Bellevue West on Friday, taking the game 8-3.
Ollie Songster spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Lauren Schneider was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Delaney Shield, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs.
Elkhorn South hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Marian's record now sits at 7-10. As for Elkhorn South, their record is now 16-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Marian hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Elkhorn South struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Marian couldn't quite get it done against Elkhorn South in their previous meeting back in August as they fell 8-5. Can the Crusaders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
