The Progreso Red Ants typically have all the answers at home, but on Thursday the Freer Buckaroos proved too difficult a challenge. Freer enjoyed a cozy 43-26 win over Progreso. Freer's win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Freer's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Samantha Barker, who scored 13 points along with 4 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Barker has scored at least 25% of Freer's points. Ashlyn Bulter was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Progreso's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sophia Pecina, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. The matchup was Pecina's ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lorena Cerda, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Freer's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Progreso, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
Freer's road trip will continue as they head out to face San Isidro at 6:00 p.m. on November 30th. San Isidro comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Progreso, they will square off against McMullen County at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. McMullen County will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
