Duluth fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Grayson on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Rams by a score of 17-16. On the bright side, the 16- run performance marked the Wildcats' highest-scoring match to date.
Kaylie Zirger made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 5-for-6 with seven RBI, three runs, and three doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Saniya Simmons, who got on base in five of her seven plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Duluth's defeat dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Grayson, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 17-8.
