The Dana Hills Dolphins won the last time they faced the El Toro Chargers, and things went their way on Monday too. Dana Hills came out on top against the Chargers by a score of 48-40. Given Dana Hills' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 140th, while the Chargers are ranked 324th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Dana Hills' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kayla Rice led the charge by scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds. Madison Dellner was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 12 rebounds and three steals.
El Toro lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Mariana Mina, who scored 14 points along with four steals. Mina has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bridget Boyd, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Dana Hills has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 17 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 22-4 record this season. As for El Toro, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dana Hills' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Diablos at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. As for El Toro, they will face off against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Capistrano Valley comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last six games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
