The McDonough Warhawks will face off against the Union Grove Wolverines at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. McDonough will be strutting in after a win while Union Grove will be coming in after a defeat.
McDonough headed into their last matchup having not scored more than two runs for four straight, but Stockbridge let them put that streak behind them. The Warhawks were the clear victors by a 17-8 margin over the Tigers on Tuesday. The Warhawks not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since September 6, 2024 (when they won 40-25).
Ma'Kaylah Hull was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kylei Buffington, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
McDonough always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Union Grove didn't have quite enough to beat Ola on Tuesday and fell 9-7.
Alisha Cattuzzo was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk).
At the plate, Lauren Jordan made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Aniyah Griffin was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Union Grove's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for McDonough, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
McDonough might still be hurting after the 16-1 defeat they got from Union Grove when the teams last played back in August of 2024. Can the Warhawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
