There's no place like home for the Ventura Cougars, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top against Oxnard by a score of 54-43 on Thursday. Ventura pushed the score to 47-22 by the end of the third, a deficit Oxnard cut but never quite recovered from.
Ventura's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Skyler Knight, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Knight is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 17 or more in the last three games she's played. Kailee Staniland was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six assists.
When it comes to explaining why Oxnard lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mikayla Oliver. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sienna Angell, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Ventura's win was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 24-4. As for Oxnard, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 22-6.
Ventura will be playing in front of their home fans against Camarillo at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Camarillo knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully Ventura likes a good challenge. As for Oxnard, they will head out on the road to challenge Village Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in California (Village Christian is ranked 36th, while Oxnard is ranked 59th).
