Dougherty Valley extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping them down to 1-5. They came up short against the El Cerrito Gauchos, falling 14-4. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Gauchos apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.
Brendan Weng was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Jalen Nakai, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBI.
As for El Cerrito, their record is now 4-6. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by nine runs or more this season.
On El Cerrito's side, Will Reddall was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Reddall was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season.
In other pitching news, Jackson Beebout looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. El Cerrito is 2-1 when Beebout allows one or fewer earned runs, but 2-5 otherwise.
Back at the plate, Judah Durham was excellent, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Kamal Bhatt was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Dougherty Valley and El Cerrito could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Wildcats (ranked 810th) will meet Granada (ranked 136th) at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, El Cerrito will face off against Freedom at 3:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (543 vs. 105).
