The Duncan Wildkats will face off against the Mogollon Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Duncan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.2 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Duncan earned a 9-5 win over Fort Thomas. The victory continues a trend for the Wildkats in their matchups with the Apaches: they've now won three in a row.
Reymia Contreras spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Shaylynn Rhoton was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Sierra Chamberlin, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Duncan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .517. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Mogollon had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past Ash Fork/Seligman 14-7 on Tuesday.
Kaddie Porter was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Porter was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Mogollon got a massive performance out of Kindsey Porter, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Haidyn Franco, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs.
Mogollon's win bumped their record up to 8-12. As for Duncan, their victory bumped their record up to 13-6.
Mogollon's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Duncan has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Mogollon, though, as they've been averaging 10 hits. Given Duncan's sizable advantage in that area, the Mustangs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Duncan might still be hurting after the 15-1 loss they got from Mogollon in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Will the Wildkats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
