Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northwest Rankin). They walked away with a 28-20 win over the Brookhaven Panthers on Friday. A big part of Northwest Rankin's win came down to the chemistry between Gavin Phillipson and his top target De'Shawn Dillon. Phillipson threw for 249 yards and four TDs while completing 76.2% of his passes while Dillon picked up 196 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Dillon's longest reception was for an incredible 79 yards. Jermany Hayden handled things on the ground, rushing for 106 yards.
Brookhaven's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaden Allen, who rushed for 33 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 197 yards on only 13 passes.

Looking ahead, Northwest Rankin will be playing in front of their home fans against Brandon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The contest will give the Cougars their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Brookhaven, after each having a week off, they and Laurel will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on October 10. The Panthers will be up against the Golden Tornadoes' rather soft defense (which has allowed 32.6 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
