Overfelt is 9-1 against Mt. Pleasant since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Royals will venture away from home to challenge the Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. Overfelt is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
Overfelt fell victim to Silver Creek and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Raiders, falling 12-0. The shutout was out of character for the Royals seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.
Overfelt saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was ELIJAH CASTANEDA-AZCUETA, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, Mt. Pleasant hadn't done well against James Lick recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Comets with a sharp 8-2 victory. Considering the Cardinals have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Nate Ortiz made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bryan Lopez Rodriguez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Joshua Santos also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Mt. Pleasant's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Overfelt, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Overfelt hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .387. However, it's not like Mt. Pleasant struggles in that department as they've averaged .354. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Overfelt couldn't quite finish off Mt. Pleasant in their previous matchup on Tuesday and fell 4-2. Can the Royals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
