The Angola Hornets will square off against the Woodlan Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Angola will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Monday, then bounced right back against Churubusco on Tuesday. The Hornets were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Eagles. Considering the Hornets have won 14 matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Myles Steury, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Jackson Steury was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Woodlan and Churubusco, and Woodlan kept the tradition alive. The Warriors put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 9-3 win on Wednesday.
Will Delagrange was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Woodlan got a massive performance out of James Goldin, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave Goldin a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jordan Halsey, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Woodlan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 8.8.
Angola has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Woodlan, their win bumped their record up to 9-10.
Angola skirted past Woodlan 9-8 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
