Basketball Game Preview: Lehi Pioneers vs. American Fork Cavemen

The Lehi Pioneers will head out on the road to challenge the American Fork Cavemen at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lehi knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully American Fork likes a good challenge.

On Tuesday, Lehi didn't have too much trouble with Salem Hills as they won 74-58. The Pioneers pushed the score to 62-42 by the end of the third, a deficit the Skyhawks cut but never quite recovered from.

Lehi's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Easton Hawkins, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten assists. Those ten assists gave Hawkins a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ashton Shewell, who posted 18 points.

Hawkins wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Lehi was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, American Fork came into Tuesday's contest having lost eight straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Bingham 54-52. The win was all the more spectacular given the Cavemen's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 69th, while the Miners are ranked sixth).

American Fork's victory bumped their record up to 3-10. As for Lehi, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

Lehi strolled past American Fork in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a score of 80-62. Does Lehi have another victory up their sleeve, or will American Fork turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
