The Evergreen Valley Cougars will venture away from home to challenge the Leland Chargers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Leland took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Evergreen Valley, who comes in off a win.
It was a proper cat-fight when Evergreen Valley duked it out with Lincoln on Friday. The Cougars had just enough and edged out the Lions 4-3.
Jacob Cambra was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Hang, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Evergreen Valley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lincoln struck out ten times.
Meanwhile, Leland came up short against Ann Sobrato on Friday and fell 7-4.
Leland saw nine different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jordan Visperas, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another was Cole Canter, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Evergreen Valley is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Leland, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Evergreen Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Leland struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Evergreen Valley's way against Leland in their previous matchup back in March of 2022, as Evergreen Valley made off with a 9-2 win. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chargers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
