On Saturday, Monte Vista beat Pinole Valley 52-44. Given Monte Vista's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 188th, while Pinole Valley is ranked 397th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Monte Vista to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mahi Jariwala, who scored 22 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jariwala has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Rudd, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Monte Vista is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. As for Pinole Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.
Monte Vista on the road again on Monday and play against Summit Shasta at 1:00 p.m. on January 15th. Summit Shasta is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games. As for Pinole Valley, they will face off against San Leandro at 9:00 a.m. on Monday.
