Dixie County hasn't had much luck against Lafayette recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Dixie County Bears will look to defend their home field against the Lafayette Hornets at 7:00 p.m. Dixie County has given up an average of 8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Dixie County lost 13-4 to Branford on Thursday. The Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Dixie County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Jones, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one double. Another was Joel Lord, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Lafayette came tearing into Thursday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They didn't even let the Red Devils on the board, marking their second-straight 10-0 shutout. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by ten runs or more this season.
Hyatt Richardson and Garrett Taylor were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Richardson didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Taylor tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in February. At the plate, Richardson scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Taylor scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs Taylor has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Noah Lamb was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Kagan Hewett, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-4.
Lafayette always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Lafayette's victory bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Dixie County, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.
Dixie County might still be hurting after the 17-6 loss they got from Lafayette in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Dixie County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
