For the first time this season, Mountain View will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Milpitas Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mountain View has four straight wins, Milpitas has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Saturday, Mountain View earned a 4-1 victory over Sequoia.
Jaeden Pietrofeso looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Mountain View's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kyle Shachal, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Milpitas and Branham meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again last Thursday. Milpitas fell just short of Branham by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Trojans have suffered since April 27, 2024.
Hugo Garay put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he hit this season.
Mountain View's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Milpitas, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
Mountain View skirted past Milpitas 7-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2018. Will Mountain View repeat their success, or does Milpitas has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
