The Marshall Barristers suffered their biggest defeat since December 9, 2023 on Wednesday. They were the victim of a tough 49-25 defeat at the hands of Franklin. While losing is never fun, Marshall can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 743rd, while Franklin is ranked 293rd).
When it comes to explaining why Marshall lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jeda Taylor. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points along with five rebounds and five blocks. Taylor is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Alicia Quintanar, who scored two points along with ten rebounds and five steals.
Franklin's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ashley Medina, who scored 17 points. Toni Vizcaino was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Marshall has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Franklin, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-2.
Marshall will be playing in front of their home fans against Lincoln at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Franklin on the road again on Saturday and play against Camarillo at 6:00 p.m. on January 20th.
