Baseball Recap: Monday's Victory Is Clairemont's Seventh in Last Nine Outings

Clairemont took a 14-run loss the last time they faced off against Steele Canyon, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Chieftains sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Cougars on Monday. For the Chieftains, this counts as revenge for the 15-1 victory the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2022.

Clairemont saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Diego Matsumoto, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Those three hits gave Matsumoto a new career-high. Luis Murrieta was another, going 2-for-4 with two runs.

Clairemont is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. As for Steele Canyon, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clairemont will venture away from home to face off against University City at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Steele Canyon, they will head out to square off against Monte Vista at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars are facing the Monarchs at the right time seeing as the Monarchs are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
