After losing to the Hoover Huskies the last time they met, the Charleston Catholic Irish decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The stars were shining brightly for Charleston Catholic in a 34-20 win over Hoover on Saturday. That looming 34-20 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Charleston Catholic yet this season.
Charleston Catholic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mary Rushworth, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Rushworth has scored at least 25% of Charleston Catholic's points. Another player making a difference was Layla Carter, who scored five points along with 12 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Hoover saw an underclassman step up: Natilee Hill scored ten points. Those ten points set a new season-high mark for her.
The victory makes it two in a row for Charleston Catholic and bumps their season record up to 3-1. As for Hoover, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-6.
Charleston Catholic is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Buffalo at 7:00 p.m. on December 19th. Buffalo will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. Hoover will be home for the holidays to greet Shady Spring at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Shady Spring focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 last Saturday.
