The Piner Prospectors lost against the Sonoma Valley Dragons back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Piner was dealt a 51-24 defeat at the hands of Sonoma Valley. While losing is never fun, Piner can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 787th, while Sonoma Valley is ranked 349th).
Several Prospectors players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Briana Sanchez , who scored nine points. Julia Almaraz was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Piner's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Sonoma Valley, they pushed their record up to 6-3 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Piner will be home for the holidays to greet Roseland University Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Sonoma Valley won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Terra Linda at 7:00 p.m. on December 14th. Terra Linda comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
