The Taft Eagles will challenge the Kenwood Broncos at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither Taft nor Kenwood posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.
On Saturday, Taft didn't have quite enough to beat Warren Township and fell 2-1.
Taft got a good showing from Jackson Wilhelm, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. That's the fewest hits Wilhelm has allowed since back in May of 2025.
At the plate, Taft saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Espinosa, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Kenwood had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Vikings.
Jace Binion spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Kenwood is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-11 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Shaun Vaughns was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Khaiden Thomas was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Taft's defeat dropped their record down to 10-13. As for Kenwood, their victory bumped their record up to 8-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Taft has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Kenwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
