After flying high against the Blacksher Bulldogs last Monday, the Shields Panthers came back down to earth. Shields was just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 52-51 to the Tigers. Shields was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played last Monday.
Shields lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Cantangelo Hicks, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jalance Kimbrough, who scored 11 points along with five assists and three steals.
McKenzie found their leader in underclassman Quay Jackson, who scored 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Mcmillian, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
Shields has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-14 record this season. As for McKenzie, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-11.
Shields will head out on the road to challenge the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for McKenzie, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
