Basketball Recap: Aptos Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Notre Dame, Aptos was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, they made off with a 32-31 victory over the Monterey Dores. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mariners have posted since February 4th.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Aptos to victory, but perhaps none more so than Eliya Chavez, who posted nine points along with five rebounds and four steals. Chavez is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Abby Sherwood, who earned 11 points in addition to seven boards and three blocks.

Several Dores players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rebecca Salcedo Cancino, who scored ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Averi Smith, who put up eight points and four steals.

Aptos now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Monterey, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Coincidentally, Aptos and Monterey will both be playing North Monterey County the next time they take the court. The Dores will host the Condors at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Mariners will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
