Teagan McLaughlin was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, John Martin was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Another player making a difference was Landon Wurmnest, who earned two RBI and two stolen bases.
Ridgeview hit El Paso-Gridley with a four-run fifth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Titans fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 5-4.
Carson Dohman made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Eureka's record is now 9-7. As for El Paso-Gridley, their record now sits at 4-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Eureka has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like El Paso-Gridley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Eureka got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April of 2025 against El Paso-Gridley by a conclusive 15-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
