The Mission San Jose Warriors will head out to challenge the Mt. Eden Monarchs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mission San Jose has now lost 11 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 3.
Mission San Jose fell victim to Kennedy and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 10-0 to the Titans. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Warriors have suffered against the Titans since May 28, 2021.
Mission San Jose saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nicholas Campbell, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double. That double was Campbell's first of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mt. Eden). Everything went their way against Tennyson on Friday as they made off with a 34-0 win. With that victory, the Monarchs brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Mateo Romo made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Mt. Eden: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 6-7 otherwise. Romo was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with six RBI, four runs, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other pitching news, Javier Alfaro III looked comfortable as he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.
Back at the plate, Cristian Alvarenga was incredible, scoring six runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all six of his plate appearances. He also brought in four RBI, which is notable because Mt. Eden is 2-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 6-7 otherwise. Bryan Zamora was another key player, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.
Mt. Eden always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The win made it two in a row for Mt. Eden and bumps their season record up to 8-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 22.5 runs over those games. As for Mission San Jose, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-14.
