The Chadwick Dolphins's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 34-27 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mayfield. If Chadwick hoped to take revenge for the 36-25 loss against they when the teams met, then they were left disappointed.
Mayfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kristen Awakuni, who scored 15 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Christine Ellis, who scored four points along with 14 rebounds and five steals.
Chadwick bumped their record down to 3-11 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Mayfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chadwick will take on Flintridge Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Flintridge Prep presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Chadwick in California (Flintridge Prep is ranked 41st, while Chadwick is ranked 944th). Mayfield will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Providence at 2:00 p.m. on January 20th. Providence is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
