After a string of four wins, the Vasquez Mustangs's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 55-23 loss at the hands of Adelanto. While losing is never fun, Vasquez can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 811th, while Adelanto is ranked 405th).
Adelanto had a senior duo take command as Sara Aguayo scored 15 points along with four steals and Nina Lacy scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Lacy has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times she's played. nyomi sanchez was another key contributor, scoring six points along with four steals.
Vasquez's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Adelanto, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vasquez will take on Desert Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Adelanto will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Barstow at 6:00 p.m. on January 2nd. Barstow is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
