The Hempfield Area Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. The match between Hempfield Area and Pine-Richland wasn't particularly close, with Hempfield Area falling 52-36. If Hempfield Area hoped to take revenge for the 59-23 defeat against they when the teams met, then they were left disappointed.
Madison Zavasky was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 30 points and 14 rebounds for Pine-Richland. That makes it four consecutive games in which Zavasky has scored at least a third of Pine-Richland's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maren Iski, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds.
Hempfield Area dropped their record down to 7-8 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Pine-Richland, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hempfield Area will face off against Trinity at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Trinity presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Hempfield Area in Pennsylvania (Trinity is ranked 65th, while Hempfield Area is ranked 220th). As for Pine-Richland, they will head out on the road to face off against North Allegheny at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. North Allegheny is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last eight games.
