The Calaveras Red Hawks will head out on the road to face off against the West Campus Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Calaveras focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, it was a hard-fought game, but Calaveras had to settle for a 42-40 loss against Sonora.
Despite the defeat, Calaveras saw an underclassman step up: Emma Clark scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Clark has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played. Izzy Tapia was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, West Campus came tearing into Wednesday's contest with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 44.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 60-9 win over Florin. West Campus has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 17 matchups by 24 points or more this season.
Leilani Edinburgh continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 11 steals. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Loismary Justice, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.
Calaveras' defeat dropped their record down to 17-7. As for West Campus, their victory was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-6.
Calaveras came up short against West Campus in their previous matchup back in February of 2019, falling 61-50. Thankfully for Calaveras, Gabby Rones (who scored 28 points along with seven rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
