 Meanwhile, San Marcos has not done well against Torrey Pines recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way  on Saturday. San Marcos sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with  a  6-5  win over Torrey Pines.
 San Marcos also got a great performance from  Brody Layne as he  didn't allow a single  earned run over 5.1 innings pitched.
 On the hitting side,  the team  relied heavily on  Gavin Vanderpool, who  got on base  in four of his seven plate appearances with a  home run, five  RBI,  and a  double. Another player making a difference was  Ethan Martinez, who  scored two  runs while going 3-for-6.
 Rancho Bernardo is  on a roll lately: they've  won five of their last six matchups,  which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record  this season. As for San Marcos, their victory bumped their record up to 12-6.
