Munster has gone 9-1 against Kankakee Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Mustangs will face off against the Kougars at 5:00 p.m. Munster is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
If Munster beats Kankakee Valley with seven runs on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Mustangs came out on top against Moline by a score of 7-3 on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.
Nate Southwell was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Nick Crowley, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Munster lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April.
Meanwhile, Kankakee Valley made easy work of South Central on Saturday and carried off a 12-2 win. That's two games straight that the Kougars have won by exactly ten runs.
Jake Fitzpatrick made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. He is becoming a predictor of Kankakee Valley's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 4-2 (and 7-10 when he doesn't). Fitzpatrick was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Brady Flick and Hunter Munoz did most of the damage at the plate: Flick went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base, while Munoz went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Flick is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
Munster's record now sits at 19-6. As for Kankakee Valley, their record is now 11-12.
Kankakee Valley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Munster hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .347. It's a different story for Kankakee Valley, though, as they've only averaged .246. Will they be able to contain Munster's hitters?
Everything went Munster's way against Kankakee Valley in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, as Munster made off with a 10-0 victory. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Kougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
