San Ysidro extended their losing streak to seven on Monday, dropping them down to 7-18. They took a 14-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bonita Vista Barons. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Barons this season, with their most recent loss being a 3-0 defeat back in April.
Tristan Chavez led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianni Duran, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
As for Bonita Vista, they have been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games.
On Bonita Vista's side, ANTHONY SANDOVAL looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. SANDOVAL has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Bonita Vista let KENSEN JOHNSON and SANTIAGO OLIVAS run wild. JOHNSON got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while OLIVAS went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave OLIVAS a new career-high. Another player making a difference was ADRIAN FIGUEROA, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Looking ahead, San Ysidro will host Otay Ranch at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Bonita Vista, they will venture away from home to square off against Eastlake at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Titans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Barons' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
