In what's become a running theme this season, the Pioneer Patriots gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 64-26 win over Woodland. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 39-19.
It was another big night for Olivia Gill, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last eight times she's played. Keziah Maldonado-lemus was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine assists and four steals.
Despite the defeat, Woodland had strong showings from Madilyn Watkins, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds, and Mayte Leon Perez, who scored 11 points. That was a full 42.3% of Woodland's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Even though they lost, Woodland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. This was only their 15th loss (out of 16 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Pioneer's victory was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 24-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.6 points per game. As for Woodland, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-20.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pioneer will take on Mira Loma at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Pioneer focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Tuesday. As for Woodland, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Casa Roble at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
