Dominguez hasn't had much luck against Paramount recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Dominguez Dons will venture away from home to face off against the Paramount Pirates at 3:15 p.m. Dominguez will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
While Dominguez didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on Compton Early College with a sharp 20-1 win on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Dons, who have now won three contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Isaias Villanueva looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
On the hitting side, Davon Brimm was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Ryan Flores also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Dominguez was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, the third road matchup was the charm for Paramount, as they earned their first road win of the season. They walked away with a 10-5 victory over Mary Star of the Sea on Tuesday. With that win, the Pirates brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
The team relied heavily on Jacob Quinones, who scored three runs and stole Six bases. while going 2-for-4. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.3 stolen bases per game. Diego Padilla was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Dominguez has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-1-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Dominguez has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Paramount struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Dominguez suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Paramount in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Dominguez avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
