Ceres has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Grace Davis Spartans at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Grace Davis took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Ceres, who comes in off a win.
Even though Ceres has not done well against the Tigers recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Ceres managed a 38-32 win over the Tigers. That's two games straight that Ceres has won by exactly six points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ceres to victory, but perhaps none more so than Marissa Renteria, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Renteria pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Arrayah Stallworth, who scored six points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Grace Davis' recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Thursday after their eighth straight defeat. They fell just short of Lathrop by a score of 40-38. While losing is never fun, Grace Davis can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 896th, while the Spartans are ranked 412th).
Ceres' win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-7. As for Grace Davis, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.
Ceres took their victory against the Spartans in their previous matchup back in January by a conclusive 43-23. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ceres since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
