The high school football season in Minnesota came to a close over the weekend. No.1 Mankato West was among the victors with a 24-10 win over Mahtomedi in the 5A title game .... That victory helped propel the Scarlets to the No. 1 ranking in the final Minnesota MaxPreps Top 25.
Mankato West wrapped up the season 14-0 with the 14-point win over the Zephyrs that saw Alexander Dittbenner toss a pair of TD passes, one to Brady Haugum and another to Gibson Blackstad. The Scarlets were stingy all season, allowing 71 points, while dropping 585 on offense in their unbeaten run.
The title was the school's fifth — 1999, 2002, 2008, 2014 — and the Scarlets are 5-0 in championship appearances.
In the 6A final, Lakeview South pulled out a 13-7 win over Maple Grove as quarterback Camden Dean scored on a 28-yard run and added a 52-yard score with 3 minutes remaining.
