The La Quinta Aztecs will head out on the road to face off against the Bellflower Buccaneers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Thursday, La Quinta came up short against Corona and fell 54-46. While losing is never fun, La Quinta can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 814th, while Corona is ranked 131st).
Despite the loss, La Quinta had strong showings from Katelyn Vo, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Katie Nguyen, who scored 15 points. Nguyen hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Natalie Tran, who scored 4 points along with 5 rebounds.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 69-10, which was the final score in Bellflower's tilt against Savanna on Friday.
La Quinta's victory bumped their season record to 5-5 while Corona's defeat dropped theirs to 8-1.
Everything came up roses for La Quinta against Bellflower in their previous meeting back in December of 2018 as the team secured a 53-18 win. Will La Quinta repeat their success, or does Bellflower have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
