Baseball Recap: Carmel Has No Trouble Against Monterey

Carmel's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They put the hurt on the Monterey Dores with a sharp 7-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Padres, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Matt Maxon made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Carmel is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-7 otherwise. Maxon was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Michael Melnick, who went 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season. John Beretti was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Carmel's win bumped their record up to 14-7. As for Monterey, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-15 record this season.

Carmel will host Stevenson at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Monterey, they are taking a road trip to challenge Palma at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
