The Oxford Academy Patriots lost against the Pioneer Titans back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Oxford Academy lost to the Titans at home by a decisive 54-35 margin. Oxford Academy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Oxford Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Leah Lee, who scored two points along with 12 rebounds and four steals, and Ashley Ventura who scored ten points along with five rebounds and four steals. Ventura is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaelyn Arenzana, who scored 13 points.
Pioneer found their leader in underclassman Riley Almendarez, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds. Almendarez is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last 15 games she's played. Leanne Castro was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with four steals.
Oxford Academy has not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-15 record this season. As for Pioneer, their win bumped their record up to an identical 9-15.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oxford Academy will take on the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Glenn comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last six games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. Pioneer is on the road again on Friday and plays the Dons at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th. One thing working in Cerritos' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matchups.
