Basketball Recap: Holtville Comes Up Short

Holtville played a tough contest on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the El Cajon Valley Braves, falling 56-13. The Vikings were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-3.

Kadence Toten and Melany Estrada certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Toten posted six points and 11 boards, while Estrada earned three points along with 11 rebounds and five blocks. Those six points gave Toten a new career-high.

Asia Marie Dixon continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for El Cajon Valley, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. With that strong performance, Dixon is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of McKinley Morgan, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 14 points along with six boards and four steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Holtville and nudges their season record down to 4-7. As for El Cajon Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Holtville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 36-29 defeat against Ramona on the 20th. As for El Cajon Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 52-47 victory against Crawford on the 21st.
