Lucerne Valley had lost eight games straight , but after bumping their record up to 3-9 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They blew past the Trona Tornadoes 21-5. The Mustangs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Juaquin Landeros made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Landeros was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with five stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Jonathon Gonzalez and Wesley Beck did most of the damage at the plate: Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with eight stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Beck got on base in all five of his plate appearances with six stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Those three hits gave Gonzalez a new career-high. David Diaz was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases and four runs.
Lucerne Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .792. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
As for Trona, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5-1. Tornadoes fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against Lucerne Valley since on Tuesday.
On Trona's side, they saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Doyle Hoover, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one double.
Coming up, Lucerne Valley will be playing at home against Palmdale Academy Charter School at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Jaguars have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season. As for Trona, they will head out to square off against Immanuel Christian at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The Crusaders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.25 runs per game on average), something the Tornadoes will no doubt try to take advantage of.
