The Eastern Tech Mavericks will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Allegany Campers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Eastern Tech waltzed into their contest last Wednesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They took down Carver A&T 65-46. Given Eastern Tech's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 80th, while Carver A&T is ranked 281st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Eastern Tech's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jericho Wondeye, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds, and Matthew Foley, who scored 23 points along with seven steals. Foley is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jake Prior, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Allegany has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 38 points or more this season. They blew past Berkeley Springs 75-36 at home. The win was just business as usual for Allegany, who after four games remain undefeated this season.
Eastern Tech pushed their record up to 6-1 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Allegany, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.
Eastern Tech barely slipped by Allegany when the teams last played back in December of 2022, winning 84-83. Will Eastern Tech repeat their success, or does Allegany have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
