Tehachapi has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the West Vikings at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Tehachapi focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Thursday.
In what's become a running theme this season, Tehachapi gave their fans yet another huge win on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 62-37 margin over North. Given Tehachapi's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 154th, while the Stars are ranked 527th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Tehachapi to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kennedy Perkins, who scored 19 points along with four blocks. Perkins is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last five games she's played. Riley Walden was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, West unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 45-38 to Golden Valley.
West's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Iyanna King mathews, who scored 17 points along with four steals, and Caleigh Adams who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. King mathews is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 17 or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Nala Roberts Wright, who scored two points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Tehachapi is on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 18 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-2 record this season. As for West, their loss dropped their record down to 14-9.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Tehachapi have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 37.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like West struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Tehachapi against the Vikings in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 71-19 win. With Tehachapi ahead 44-13 at the half, the game was all but over already.
