Bishop Union has gone 9-1 against California City recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Broncos will head out to face off against the Ravens at 3:15 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.
Last Friday, Bishop Union got the win against Desert by a conclusive 10-3. Considering the Broncos have won four contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Brayden Leeson and Aiden Frechette made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Leeson pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Frechette struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Leeson scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5, while Frechette scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Knox Moffet, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Elliot Douda was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Bishop Union always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Desert only posted an OBP of .276.
Meanwhile, California City won against Mammoth on Friday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. The Ravens' pitcher stepped up to hand Delano a 15-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Ravens, who have now won four games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Like Bishop Union, California City also got a great game from a two-way player: Aaroon Moreno. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Moreno was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. He also brought in three RBI, which is notable because California City is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 3-5-1 otherwise.
In other batting news, Dylan Hammer was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two triples, two stolen bases, and five RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kole Hightower, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3.
Bishop Union's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. As for California City, their record now sits at 7-5-1.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bishop Union hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .394. However, it's not like California City struggles in that department as they've averaged .326. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bishop Union might still be hurting after the 9-2 loss they got from California City when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Broncos avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
