Softball Recap: Millard North Takes Down Ranked Marian

Millard North faced Marian in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over the Crusaders. Considering the Mustangs have won six games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Abby Beard was a standout: she fired off two home runs and seven RBI while going 3-for-3. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tenley Kampbell, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Millard North kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.

Millard North is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Marian, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Millard North will challenge Piedmont at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Mustangs 2.4, the Wildcats 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Marian, they will take on Skutt Catholic at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Crusaders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the SkyHawks have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
