After losing to the San Ysidro Cougars the last time they met, the Mar Vista Mariners decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Mar Vista enjoyed a cozy 42-27 win over San Ysidro on Wednesday.
Mar Vista got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Anissa Smith out in front who scored 19 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least 25% of Mar Vista's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Allyson Bell, who scored 13 points.
Despite the defeat, San Ysidro saw an underclassman step up: Kristine Fadriquela scored 21 points. The match was Fadriquela's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Natalie Martinez, who scored 6 points.
Mar Vista's victory bumped their record up to 1-2. As for San Ysidro, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mar Vista will be home for the holidays to greet Coronado at 5:00 p.m. on December 15th. San Ysidro will take on Vincent Memorial at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Vincent Memorial is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
