California and San Ramon Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Grizzlies will face off against the Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (California has seven straight wins, San Ramon Valley has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Monday, California was able to grind out a solid victory over Skyline, taking the game 8-3.
Tommy Casserly looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Johnny Edwards was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Angelo Sherman was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
California kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for San Ramon Valley's offense. They lost 10-0 to De La Salle on Friday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Wolves, who until this contest were averaging 3.37 runs allowed.
San Ramon Valley saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carson Wall, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double. Colton Fitzgibbon also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
California pushed their record up to 12-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for San Ramon Valley, they now have a losing record of 9-10.
California couldn't quite get it done against San Ramon Valley when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 6-1. Can the Grizzlies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
