The South Johnston Trojans are taking a road trip to challenge the Midway Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, South Johnston turned things around against Lee County on Tuesday. They never let the Yellow Jackets get on the board and left with a 17-0 win. That looming 17-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Trojans yet this season.
Midway came out on top against Rosewood on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run first inning. The Raiders blew past the Eagles 11-3. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won four contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Tanner Williams was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2025. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carson Tew, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Wesley Tew, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Midway kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in four consecutive games.
South Johnston's record now sits at 3-5. As for Midway, their record is now 5-2.
South Johnston came out on top in a nail-biter against Midway when the teams last played back in February of 2025, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
